Practical Training Overview
Students' practical experience starts in Semester 2 with on-campus guided biweekly labs under the supervision of registered Sonographer faculty members. These lab sessions bridge the gap between classroom instruction and real-world clinical practice, giving students the hands-on skills they need before entering the externship phase of the program.
What to Expect in the Lab
Guided Scanning Practice
Students practice ultrasound scanning techniques on lab equipment under direct faculty supervision, building confidence and competency before clinical placement.
Registered Sonographer Faculty
All lab sessions are supervised by registered Sonographer faculty members who provide real-time feedback and guidance throughout each session.
Biweekly Schedule
Labs are held biweekly throughout Semester 2, providing consistent, structured practice time alongside classroom coursework.
Bridge to Externship
Lab activities prepare students for the externship phase beginning in Semester 3, where skills are tested in a real clinical environment.
Scan Lab
The Cardiotech Scan Lab is equipped with ultrasound equipment used in the field, giving students exposure to the same technology they will encounter in clinical settings. Small class sizes ensure every student receives adequate hands-on time during each lab session.
Next Step: Externship
After completing lab activities, students move into the externship phase beginning in Semester 3.
